WHAT IS CANTILEVER RACK?

A Cantilever rack system is a freestanding storage unit with horizontal load carrying arms extending outward from a single vertical column. It is completely accessible from the front without any of the horizontal restrictions of traditional pallet rack. Without that front column obstruction, the entire length of the rack may be used for storage which makes it possible to manage loads of varying length and proportion that must be kept off the floor.

Cantilever rack is the ideal solution for storing long or heavy items such as: pipe, tubing, sheet steel or lumber. In addition, furniture, carpet rolls or building materials with odd-sized dimensions store exceptionally well and are removed without damage due to excessive maneuvering around vertical or horizontal obstructions.

The uprights consist of a vertical column and a horizontal base which is bolted to the column. Each storage bay must have a minimum of two uprights. The edge of the column is punched vertically on 3″ centers so it can be used as a single or double-sided upright depending on the size of the base used.

Cantilever arms are the heart of the rack system, so proper selection is a must when planning. Straight arms are generally used for storing stable loads, while the inclined arms are for round objects or loads that tend to roll forward.

Brace sets are structural channel members that are bolted between pairs of uprights to provide lateral stability to the rack system. Brace lengths are measured from centerline of the upright to centerline of the next upright. Taller uprights (15′-20′) use an X-brace to increase the lateral stability.

  • Solid one-piece column design
  • Completely welded base construction
  • Heavy-gauge beams securely hold the loads
  • Guide rails make for a quick and easy operation of the order picker
  • Free-standing upright columns, up to 48’ with no need to top tie which restricts maneuvering of furniture on upper locations
